Overview of the Bosch DINION IP 4000 HD

This box network camera is part of the Bosch DINION range and provides high-quality surveillance at a great price. It supports true day/night recording and delivers smooth HD 720p resolution at 25 frames per second (fps), making it ideal for round-the-clock monitoring of indoor areas. Additional features include two-way audio support, built-in SD card storage and Power-over-Ethernet (PoE).

A varifocal lens is included and offers wide horizontal views of up to 110° for optimum scene coverage. Areas in the scene that are of particular interest can be user-defined and separate streams for viewing and recording can be produced, allowing these regions to be viewed separately whilst retaining overall awareness. Also, specific areas of the original image can be examined in more detail with electronic pan/tilt/zoom (E-PTZ) controls and help to identify persons or objects.

The camera’s built-in microphone allows activity occurring close to the camera to be heard in live view and audio recordings can be listened to in playback. Two-way communication is also supported with the connection of a speaker (not included) via the external I/O port. Audio triggered alerts can be used alongside motion detection and tampering alarms to notify users of possible incidents. In addition, external alarm sources can be connected via integrated I/O ports for enhanced alarm signalling.

Bosch’s Content Based Imaging Technology (CBIT) helps to ensure high quality image capture in all lighting conditions. In the DINION IP 4000 range, this technology consists of Intelligent Dynamic Noise Reduction to help produce clearer low-light images by analysing the scene and reducing noise levels. These low-noise images, together with the unit’s efficient H.264 compression technology provide reduced bandwidth streams that still retain high image quality.

Bandwidth levels can be managed using multi-streaming and both H.264 and MJPEG compression formats are supported. In addition, when monitoring narrow areas a secondary stream can be viewed using the ‘upright mode’ which produces a cropped image (9:16) and helps to reduce bandwidth and storage requirements. Support for SD card recording (card not included), mobile viewing via the free Bosch Video Security app and PoE means the unit is ideal for those requiring a simple to install, standalone CCTV system.
